Animals On Parade: 56th Annual Pet Show at Museum of Arts & Sciences

For 56 years the Museum of Arts and Sciences has recognized and fostered kids’ love for their pets (and animals in general) through the annual Annual Pet Show. The event includes family- and pet-friendly events from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Participation in the pet pageant is $1 per person, $1 per registered pet. Pan-African Fest PrEvent: Taste of (New Orleans) Soul

The Tubman Museum’s Pan African Festival is on the horizon next weekend, but this Saturday night, April 16, the Taste of Soul fundraiser is sure to get you in the mood. This year’s theme is “Let the Good Times Roll.” Celebrity chefs will serve up their best gourmet New Orleans-style food in the Drexel Center at St. Peter Claver Church on Ward St.. Screen Scene: “Bingo Long” at Sports Hall, “Soundtrack” of Civil Rights Movement, and “Blues Brothers” at the Capitol

Movie lovers may enjoy three winners screening at three venues this week. On Saturday, April 16, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame continues its monthly sports-themed movie screening with the fabulous "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings." Shot principally in Macon, the film is based on the true story of Negro League pitchers. The 70’s classic stars Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, and Richard Pryor among others. The Write Stuff: Jack McDevitt on What Not to Do, Terry Kay Q&A and Movie Event

The Crossroads Writers Workshop hits Sidney Lanier Cottage again this Saturday morning, April 16, for a workshop on “What Writers Do to Guarantee They Won’t Get Published.” Nebula Award-winning novelist Jack McDevitt is the featured speaker and will give his best tips to budding bards. Three stars of the music world take on Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music for Strings Extravaganza this Saturday night, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Opera House.
