Bears Finish Sixth In A-Sun Golf

The Mercer women's golf team capped its performance at the Atlantic Sun Championship with a 311 in Wednesday's final round. Mercer's three-day total of 926 placed the team sixth in the final standings.

Stetson captured its third-straight league title with a tournament score of 894 and also boasted the individual champion, sophomore Alexandria Buelow. Campbell (906) finished second while Kennesaw State, East Tennessee State and Florida Gulf Coast all shot 917 and tied for third.

"We played with a lot of heart today," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "We've come a long, long way and we've got a lot more pride now."

Sophomore Kimmy Graff took Mercer's top individual finish, a tie for 11th place among the 50-player field. Graff's 54-hole total of 227 came with a final round 78 and was her second-lowest three-round score in her collegiate career.

"Kimmy gave it everything she had this week," Guyer said. "I'm very proud of how she has progressed."

Captain's Blog... I am growing very tired. Yet, my mission must continue.

Captain's Blog... I am growing very tired. Yet, my mission must continue.

Wow! What a weekend. I’m not even going to pretend I can keep this one short.

Unfortunately the weekend began on a somber note with the passing of my daughter Carly’s pet hamster, Lenny. Although, Lenny wasn’t the most productive member of the household and, he DID live twice his expectancy but, didn’t live long enough for me to figure a way to harness his energy for heat and lighting purposes. He provided my little girl much happiness. And, for that, Lenny was deserving of the beautiful casket, ceremony and memorial in the front yard. We will Miss you Lenny.

Upon completion of my normal groundskeeper duties on Friday, I hurried with my son to pick up a friend and fellow scout member that was to stay with us throughout the weekend.

Teen Arrested for Aggravated Assault in Payne City

A 16-year-old was arrested for aggravated assault in Payne City Tuesday night. That's according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The arrest happened on Comer Terrace.

A news release says the teenager's father, 37-year-old Chad Logan, and his uncle 40-year-old Steve Logan, got into a fight with 19-year-old Telvin Jackson and several other men over a money transaction involving a motor scooter.

It says the 16-year-old went in the house and got a handgun during the fight, and began to shoot at Jackson and his group as they ran from the scene.

The release says the 16-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Other arrests are pending further investigation.

The Logan brothers received minor injuries from the fight.

Anyone with information can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 746-9441.
