Let Us Vote: By Sen. Brown and Staton

-Written by Senator Robert Brown and Senator Cecil Staton, Submitted by the Senate Press Office.

As the recession ends and we begin the long, hard period of re-growth, Macon and Bibb County are on the cusp of a potential new era. Many look forward to a time, as we saw in the late 1990s, where economic development projects brought people, industries and jobs to Macon. Private/public partnerships constructed shopping centers, riverside walk ways and museums. Downtown historic districts received long-needed facelifts.

It may not seem like it right now, but those days could return sooner than we might think – we just have to push them along a little.

Classical Notes: Percussion Play at Fickling Hall, Macon Symphony on the Movies, and Choral Society with “Requiem”

Rainy Days and All Day

Well despite my happy nose with the present weather, it stunts my local discoveries for a while. I really have high hopes of attending Friday Fest's Annual Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow.

However, the weather doesn't look as though it's going to permit me the opportunity. If you happen to venture out make sure that you not only look on the street for colorful eggs but also check inside your favorite local businesses.

There are many prizes in store for the vigilant searcher. If I do happen to venture out into the rainy downtown streets I will definitely have to poke my head into Dolce Vita. They have the most delicious four cheese dip if you haven't already tried it.

I also have to check out what band is playing at Third Street Park. There are a lot of groups that will really surprise you if you're into the local scene. Well, weather permitting I hope to see you all out there!

Are those Tornado Sirens or Shawty Slim's Party Horns??

Are those Tornado Sirens or Shawty Slim's Party Horns??

Before my memory erases the evening of The Street Party, I should better blog about it....

Saturday started out pleasantly with me meeting my sister, my nieces, my 2 youngest and their mom. We began to stroll through the local farmers and vendors at the Market on Poplar St.

It was a nice day and we were all glad to see that they had relocated within walking distance from my house. All of local vendors brought to mind (once again) that I wish I had the funds to open a 'Farm to Market' Restaurant or Grocer in the heart of downtown. We have so many local producers that I know could certainly use the business. And, I know that many of my fellow downtowners would support it.

We love to support each other and, it would certainly be nice to be able to walk to a Grocery Store for fresh foods.
