Captain's Blog... I am growing very tired. Yet, my mission must continue.

Captain's Blog... I am growing very tired. Yet, my mission must continue.

Wow! What a weekend. I’m not even going to pretend I can keep this one short.

Unfortunately the weekend began on a somber note with the passing of my daughter Carly’s pet hamster, Lenny. Although, Lenny wasn’t the most productive member of the household and, he DID live twice his expectancy but, didn’t live long enough for me to figure a way to harness his energy for heat and lighting purposes. He provided my little girl much happiness. And, for that, Lenny was deserving of the beautiful casket, ceremony and memorial in the front yard. We will Miss you Lenny.

Upon completion of my normal groundskeeper duties on Friday, I hurried with my son to pick up a friend and fellow scout member that was to stay with us throughout the weekend.

Teen Arrested for Aggravated Assault in Payne City

A 16-year-old was arrested for aggravated assault in Payne City Tuesday night. That's according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The arrest happened on Comer Terrace.

A news release says the teenager's father, 37-year-old Chad Logan, and his uncle 40-year-old Steve Logan, got into a fight with 19-year-old Telvin Jackson and several other men over a money transaction involving a motor scooter.

It says the 16-year-old went in the house and got a handgun during the fight, and began to shoot at Jackson and his group as they ran from the scene.

The release says the 16-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Other arrests are pending further investigation.

The Logan brothers received minor injuries from the fight.

Anyone with information can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 746-9441.

Mayor Pitches Proposal To Sell City Properties

Macon Mayor Robert Reichert is asking city council to consider a proposal to sell the Macon City Auditorium, City Hall Annex, and other city properties for $25 million.

According to the plan, the city would then lease the properties back and continue to operate them.

The city could then buy the properties back for $1 at the end of the 15-year lease.

A company called Class Green Capital Partners approached the mayor with the idea last year.

According to the mayor's presentation, he proposes $2.5 million be used for energy efficiency upgrades to the properties.

$12.5 million could be used to bankroll the pension fund, which has the potential to be a significant financial burden on the city's budget in the next fiscal year.

The mayor proposes the rest by used for capital projects.

Mercer Knocks Off Savannah State

The Mercer baseball team got back into the win column with a hard fought 8-4 victory over a game Savannah State squad on Tuesday evening at Claude Smith Field.

Mercer (23-13) broke a three-game losing streak with the win against a scrappy Savannah State (20-16) team that came into Tuesday's action on a five-game winning streak.

Freshman Brandon Barker got the start and pitched well, allowing only one earned run in three predetermined innings. Junior Jacob Matthews picked up the win for the Bears, his third of the season, after allowing two runs in three innings of relief.

Both team started quickly offensively, scoring a combined five runs over the first three innings of play. A solo home run by senior Thomas Carroll put the Orange and Black in front 3-2 through three.
