Increasingly Enlightened: Mayor Reichert outlines vision for the future in annual address

At the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 State of the Community Luncheon, Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert spoke to the crowd of leaders, officials, and business professionals about how bright the future is for our community. In fact, he called it increasingly enlightened! You can read the mayor's speech here, and to watch his remarks, visit MaconBibb.TV. To see a gallery of photos from the event, click here.

Hundreds march with message of peace and unity

At this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance, people gathered at Recreation Centers in the North, East, West, and South parts of Macon-Bibb, then all marched to meet downtown at Government Center. Mayor Robert Reichert spoke about how old Dr. King was when he gave his iconic 'I Have a Dream Speech.' King was only 34 years old. Reichert then challenged everyone- no matter how young or old, to make a difference in their community. You can watch a MaconBibbTV feature on the march, here.

Enhanced efforts under way to cut down on litter

It takes a lot of work to keep our community free of trash and debris. Last year, from July to December, volunteers and probationers picked up 997 bags of litter along our major roads and intersections. Just this year from January 10 to February 8, Public Works has picked up 645 bags of litter.

Last year we provided support for 236 neighborhood cleanups that yielded more than 787 tons of junk! That includes stuff like old tires and appliances dumped in empty lots. As our crews cut the grass around town, they pick up trash in the process. Last year they collected 42 tons of debris.

In an effort to combat this ongoing battle, The Bibb County Sheriff's office is ramping up efforts to enforce litter citations and catch people who trash our turf. You can read the resolution here.
