Twiggs Residents to Vote on Senate Race

People in Macon can start casting votes Monday on the mayor's race, seven city council contests and two seats in the General Assembly.

Advance voting on the July 19 primary opens at 8:30 a.m. at the Bibb County Board of Elections. That's at 2445 Pio Nono Ave.

Elections supervisor Elaine Carr says that voting "officially" starts Tuesday but people who show up at the headquarters can vote Monday.

These races are on the Democratic primary ballot:

The mayor's race among Paul Bronson, Robert Brown, C. Jack Ellis and Mayor Robert Reichert.

 

Ward 1, Post 3, Chris Horne is challenging incumbent Elaine Lucas.

Ward 2, Post 2, Henry Gibson is challenging incumbent Mike Cranford.

Storms Cause Power Outages, Trees Down in Macon

Georgia Power says that about 85 customers around Macon are still without power after storms passed through Central Georgia Sunday night.

Lynn Wallace with Georgia Power says crews are working to restore the power. She says they hope to have it back on for all customers later Monday.

Macon Police say they are working to clear two trees knocked down by the storms.

Dispatchers say one tree is down at Hillcrest Avenue and Hillcrest Road and the other is at College Drive and Plant Street.

 

 

 

Two Men Robbed at Gunpoint in Macon

Two men were robbed at a west Macon apartment complex Sunday, according to Macon Police.

The call came in around 2:45 p.m. at Crystal Lake Apartments, according to public information officer Jami Gaudet.

The men told Police a passenger got out of a gold Pontiac Torrent with a gun and took an undisclosed amount of cash from them.

Police: Armed Robbery at Macon Restaurant

Macon Police responded to an armed robbery Sunday morning at the Little Caesar's restaurant on Pio Nono Avenue.

According to public information officer Jim Gaudet, the call came in around 11 a.m.

That's when a man came in the restaurant, pointed a gun at the employees and demanded money says Gaudet. 

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, police say the man ran  east towards the Mercer University campus.

Gaudet says the man was about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighed approximately 160 pounds.

She says he was last seen wearing a white shirt, khaki pants, and a towel over his head.

Macon Photographer Showcases Pictures of England

Some people say a picture is worth a thousand words, and a photography show in Macon told the story of Michael Williams' trip to England.

Williams, the photographer, says he tries to make all of his pictures unique.

"Whether its something that has been photographed a million times like the Eiffel Tower or something that has never been photographed, I always try to do it from my own perspective. I try to do it different, and I do it as I see it, and when I do that, sometimes I get lucky and the work turns out pretty well."

Over one hundred of Williams' pictures were for sale Sunday at Harpin's Restaurant.

The pictures were on sale for $75 to about $175.

Williams also showcased some of his pictures from Italy and Macon.

He recently returned from taking pictures in California.

Attempted Robbery in West Bibb

A man attempted to rob a newspaper salesman at the Walmart on Chambers Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

 

Sgt. Sean DeFoe says 32-year-old Ronnie Clements was selling newspapers out of a grocery cart, when a man allegedly grabbed his money bag out of the cart.

DeFoe says Clements grabbed the bag back, and when he did, the man pulled up his shirt showing a gun.

Clements then got a rock out of his cart, used to hold down the newspapers, and hit the man on the right side of his forehead, according to DeFoe.

He says the man then ran from the area.

DeFoe says the man was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighed about 115 lbs and had short hair.  He says the man was wearing all black clothes and a black necklace.

Man Wounded in East Bibb Shooting

A man was grazed by a bullet Saturday during a fight in an east Bibb County neighborhood. Authorities are looking for two men who ran from the scene. 

Sheriff's Office Sgt. Sean DeFoe says it happened at 3372 East Royal Court around 12:30 p.m.

According to a news release, witnesses reported hearing several men fighting on Majestic Avenue when gunshots were fired.

Durham Hogan, 21 years old, was grazed in the head by a bullet. Hogan was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he is listed in stable condition on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say the men involved in the shooting ran from the area.

Deputies are looking for two men with dreadlocks. One man was wearing a white shirt and tan shorts. The other was wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

A witness reported a cream-colored Jeep speeding from the area.
