El Obo’s Oxford Basement Collection

Jesse Coppenbarger is an old man trapped inside a 20-something-year-old’s body—speaking only in terms of wisdom, of course. He has rebelled, he has gone to church, he has fought in Vietnam and lost his faith. He has re-found his faith, only to lose and find it again. He’s traveled the world. He’s seen the sick, he’s seen the lonely, he’s been the lonely. He’s seen life, death and growth. He has fallen in and out of love. He has heard stories and has told them. He has creased and he has stood tall, all the while, still asking questions. Coppenbarger has a soul to be reckoned with, and this shines through and through on his first solo project, El Obo, with Oxford Basement Collection.

EMS Appreciation Week Wraps Up with Picnic

Central Georgia EMS crews celebrated EMS Appreciation Week on Sunday.

The Medical Center of Central Georgia threw the crew members a picnic at Tattnall Square Park to thank them for serving their communities.

Crew members and their families spent the day eating good food and playing games. Some couldn't take the whole day off, but the picnic gave EMS staff a fun place to go between shifts.

Vice President of Emergency Systems, Lee Oliver, says the picnic was meant to give the EMS crews a fun place to spend time with each other.

"The EMS crews are always a team, but we're one big family in healthcare. So, with our EMS crews, they may be shift-work, and sometimes they see each other a little bit and sometimes they see each other a lot. This is just an opportunity for everybody to come together. We expect to have about a hundred to a hundred and fifty folks here, " said Oliver.

O’Brother Performs New Track, “Easy Talk”

While fans anxiously await the upcoming release of O’Brother’s new record, Garden Window, the band releases a stripped down performance of the track “Easy Talk,” which features Manchester Orchestra’s front man, Andy Hull. All of this to feed our impatience. Enjoy!

Family Shocked By Firefighter's Drowning

A Central Georgia family is mourning the loss of Macon-Bibb County firefighter Michael Dewayne Jones.

The 24-year-old drowned at Lake Tobesofkee Saturday evening.

He jumped into the lake to rescue his sons, 5-year-old Joshua and 7-year-old Jarell, as well as a little girl who was also playing in the water.

"The little girl started drowning," said Tiffany Jones, Michael's sister. "He saved her. My nephew started drowning; he saved him. My other nephew started to drown and somehow my other nephew got back in the water and started to drown."

Michael's widow, Tykia, said she left her family at the lake and made a quick trip to a nearby convenience store. When she left, everything was calm, the kids were OK and Michael had their 7-month-old strapped to his chest. When she returned less than 10 minutes later, there was a bystander holding her baby, the kids were all wet and Michael was in the water.

Bicycles Built for Two Pedal Through Town

Over two hundred cyclists took to the roads of Central Georgia this weekend riding in pairs.

Cyclists from 15 different states made the trip for the Georgia Tandem Bike Rally. Siblings, couples and friends rode their two-seater bikes from Zebulon road to Lizella.

Riders had the option of two routes, a short 28 mile ride or a more scenic 48 mile trip to Lizella. Folks at the rally say tandem biking helps build team work between partners.

"When you are going up a hill and you are sweating and trying to get to the top you know you can rely on your team member to get you were you want to go," said Roger Strauss, Georgia Tandem Rally Ride director.

While bikers rested, they were able to check some of Macon's tourist spots like the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame and the Cannon Ball House.
