Ga. GOP Chairman's Race Comes to Macon

ATLANTA (AP) -- A few thousand Republican activists will gather in Macon next week to select one of the most powerful political posts in Georgia.

This year's three-way race for party chairman has turned into a slugfest, with all the drama of a bitter family feud. It will provide a test of new Gov. Nathan Deal's sway within the state GOP as he tries to put his stamp on the party apparatus heading into a busy presidential election season and a critical redistricting session.

Deal is backing challenger Tricia Pridemore, a volunteer from his campaign. Chairwoman Sue Everhart is running for a third two-year term

Fulton County Republican Party Chairman Shawn Hanley, a former U.S. Marine, is seen as the wildcard in the contest.

For Some, Happiness Can Come in a Cup

I admit: I love coffee. Maybe you do, too. So, I thought I'd assist all of our wallets with this little piece of information/happiness.

Today, May 6, starts Happy Hour at Starbucks.

That means from 3-5 p.m., you can get half-priced frappucinos.

The Happy Hour is daily through May 15.

Now that is what I classify as good news.

Bibb Deputy Injured in Accident

A Bibb County Sheriff's Deputy and another driver were sent to the hospital after an early morning accident.

It happened around 5:40 a.m. n the 5400 block of Houston Road, at the Skyview Mobile Home Park.

Deputy Robbie Clint Joiner was driving south on Houston when a 1998 Izuzu Rodeo, driven by 35-year-old Rodolfina Perez-Mora, pulled out in front of him.

Sgt. Sean Defoe with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says Joiner tried to swerve, but hit the vehicle.

He says both drivers were taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia to be evaluated.

Perez-Mora was cited for failure to yield and driving without a license.
