Hundreds Without Power in Central Georgia

More than 800 Georgia customers -- all but one of them in Milledgeville -- are without power in Central Georgia after this morning's severe weather.

That's according to spokeswoman Carol Boatright with Georgia Power.

Central Georgia EMC reports that more than 2,300 customers in 11 counties were without power at 10 a.m. That includes 472 customers in Monroe County and 29 in Jones.

Choral Music Medley: The Met, Mercer, and Wesleyan Concerts

It’s a great weekend for choral music. In addition to the Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of “Il Trovatore” at The Douglass Theatre this Saturday at 1 p.m., you can enjoy free choral performances at Wesleyan College and Mercer University. Macon Store Owner Shot Twice During Robbery

Macon Police say a store owner is in the hospital after being shot twice Wednesday evening during a robbery.

Jorge Villarreal was at his Latin food store El Carnaval on Pio Nono Avenue around 5 p.m. when a man entered the store, robbed him, and shot him in the arm and thigh, according to police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet.

There is no word on his condition.

Police took 22-year old Darian Farrow into custody in connection with the shooting and robbery. According to Gaudet, he was taken to the detective's bureau for questioning. He is now in the Bibb County Jail charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.

The news of the shooting brought Moises Velez to his friend's store.
