Rose Hill Cemetery Cleaning Up Graffiti

Macon city workers are cleaning up graffiti at Macon's historic Rose Hill Cemetery.

City Parks and Recreation Director Dale Daugherty says it happened sometime Sunday.

Someone painted graffiti in several spots: near the front gate, on the main cemetery road and on a couple of monument walls within the cemetery.

The graffiti had messages like "Smoke weed," "Thug life" and "Free J-Tizzle."

The damage should be cleaned and painted over by Tuesday evening, he said.

According to a Macon police report, police lifted fingerprints off spray paint cans found in the cemetery and turned them in to the crime lab.

The report says the culprits caused about $800 in damage.

State Adds 26 Pre-K Slots for Bibb, But at Fewer Sites

The Bibb County school district's Pre-Kindergarten program will serve 26 more students next school year, but have two fewer classes.

The district received guidelines from state offices Monday, according to Dr. Erin Weaver, the district's director of early childhood.

Those guidelines include the elimination of two Pre-K classrooms, one at Barden Elementary on Anderson Drive in Bibb County and one at L.H. Williams Elementary, on Pursley Street in Macon.

Weaver says the state reduced its Pre-K program by eliminating about 300 classrooms accross Georgia, due to "programmatic budget reductions." Weaver says that she was not told why those two programs were selected to be cut and says that Bibb cannot appeal the state's decision.
