The Macon Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate will celebrate its 25th anniversary in Macon this spring. Having started in a Sunday School class at Northminster Presbyterian Church, the local chapter has built 75 houses in the Macon area since 1986.

The last 22 of them are located in Lynmore Estates, a neighborhood being revitialized by the construction which will grow to 46 homes during the next few years.

Macon Habitat encourages donations of money and in-kind items and services to partner with volunteers to build homes for designated, qualifying families who must work at least 300 hours along with the volunteers toward their new home.

When completed, the home is sold to the family for total cost with Macon Habitat providing an interest-free mortgage which makes home ownership very affordable.

The ReStore is operated by Macon Habitat Wednesday through Saturday to sell donated home/building products at discounted prices. Some products are brand new, discontinued items and others are gently used. We have windows, doors, sinks, cabinets, molded countertops, tile and much more.

There is a continual need for volunteers to work in the ReStore and at the building site.

We also need families to apply for ownership of a new, energy efficient home. Applicants are subject to qualifications and should contact Macon Area Habitat for Humanity for details at 478-745-0630 or visit 690 Holt Avenue.
