A Macon woman who was shot in her apartment Wednesday morning is in stable condition after surgery, police say.

Macon police are investigating the shooting that happened around 5:40 a.m. at Autumn Trace Apartments. That's off Rocky Creek Road in south Macon.

Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says 24-year-old Brittany Cox was asleep in her apartment when at least two people kicked in the door.

Gaudet says Cox was shot multiple times and taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
