Northeast High School Horticulture Program Receives Grant
News, Schools

The Northeast High School Horticulture Class recently received a $925 Flint Energies 2010 Bright Ideas Grant to purchase materials and supplies for a Horticulture Therapy Garden.

Horticulture Therapy is an innovative treatment using plants and plant-related activities to assist in rehabilitation. The Garden will be implemented through the class’ advisory council members, which consist of master and community gardeners, as well as the nursery landscape, horticulture, floriculture and agriscience classes. The Garden is scheduled to be complete by October 2011.

The Northeast High horticulture program consists of students studying horticulture and plant science and getting hands-on experience in the many fields of agriculture and horticulture. Students are taught different types of plant and season flowers and how to properly care for them. Students are able to practice their classroom lessons in the school’s green house.
