Unemployment rates in metro Macon, Warner Robins down

New layoffs in Central Georgia fell by 28.7 percent last month.

That contributed to February's metro Macon's unemployment rate falling to 7.5 percent, down from January's 7.8 percent, according to a release.

A year ago, in February 2013, unemployment reached 9.1 percent. Macon had 400 fewer layoffs than in January.

Metro Warner Robins' unemployment also fell, but from 6.7 to 6.4 percent. Warner Robins had 200 fewer layoffs than in January.

Layoffs were down in the trade, transportation, warehousing, administrative and support services, construction, accommodations and food industries.

The Athens area continues to hold the lowest unemployment rate at 5.1 percent and the Georgia-Altamaha region holds the highest, at 9.7 percent.

These rates are seasonally unadjusted.
