Macon, GA --  Main Street Macon is proud to announce that it has taken over promotion and maintenance of the ShopLocalMacon.com website. A press conference will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Third Street Park to make the official announcement and talk about the importance of shopping locally.

“Main Street Macon is proud of the partnership that has been forged with the College Hill Alliance. We are both working on economic development projects and promoting our local, independent businesses shows businesses considering Downtown and College Hill that we care about them and understand the importance of independent businesses in our economy,” said Mechel McKinley, Main Street Macon Manager.

"Shop Local Macon isn't jut a site, it's a shared mission," said Heather Holder, executive director for the College Hill Alliance. "When the College Hill Alliance developed ShopLocalMacon.com, it was designed to serve as a resource for both businesses and community organizations. We are excited to work with Main Street Macon as they take the reins of this existing technology and make it a permanent resource for the local business community and those seeking to shop local."

Main Street Macon will move forward with promoting the “shop local” message for Downtown and College Hill and assist with grand opening events in both areas. “Strategically, this is a partnership that makes sense for us,” said Ben Sapp, president of the Main Street Macon Board, “The businesses in Downtown and College Hill are similar in many ways and combining the promotional efforts for shopping locally is an efficient use of our resources.”

To register a business on the ShopLocalMacon.com website businesses should be located within the Downtown or College Hill Corridor areas. Listings are free. Membership can be obtained by visiting the website and creating a login. Continued participation is key to making the website a success. Businesses can post sales, news articles and coupons on the site.

Main Street Macon is a program of the Economic and Community Development Department with the City of Macon. The program focuses on economic development and historic presentation in the Downtown area.
