Bibb County School District Hosting Dress Drive | Arts & Culture
The Bibb County School District's Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Department is seeking donations for the inaugural Cinderella's Wish List Dress Drive.
The Cinderella's Wish List Dress Drive, similar to Houston County's annual Demon Dress Drive, will include a sale at which prom dresses will be sold at a discounted cost to all Bibb County high school girls.
The CTAE Department is hosting the event to raise funds for the 2013 CTAE Student of the Year Scholarship fund. Currently, the CTAE Department presents a $500 scholarship to the Bibb County CTAE Student of the Year and $250 scholarship to the first- and second-place runners-up. The CTAE Department hopes to make this an annual event to increase the scholarship fund each year and create partnerships with local businesses to donate gift cards from beauty salons, restaurants, and spas, which will be used as door prizes during the dress sale, CTAE Director Dr. Cassandra Miller-Washington told Board of Education members when she presented them with information on the event during the Thursday, January 17, meeting.
"This initiative was implemented to recognize an outstanding CTAE student in each of the seven high schools that have made significant achievement in their academics and Career, Technical and Agricultural Education classes," Dr. Washington said. "These students also exhibit outstanding leadership in Career Technical Student Organizations and demonstrate a commitment to giving back to the community. These foundational skills set the stage for success in college and their future careers."
The CTAE Department is currently accepting donations of gently used prom, formal, and bridesmaids dresses at all seven high schools. The dress sale is scheduled for Friday, February 22 from 4-6:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 23, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hutchings Career Center, 2011 Riverside Drive in Macon.
