Local Children Selected for Touring 'Wizard of Oz' Show

The National Tour of “The Wizard of Oz” announced that 12 children from Central Georgia will perform the roles of munchkins in Macon showings of the beloved classic live on stage.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be performing at The Grand Opera House March 15-16 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Macon.

That is according to a Grand Opera House news release

Macon dance studio Academy of the Performing Arts auditioned, selected and will prepare all 12 munchkins for their choreographed songs and dances in the production. The children will have the opportunity to dance alongside a nationally touring Broadway company and learn valuable, real-world skills while having fun. Owners Sylvia Haynie and Laura Voss, both with 30 years’ experience, are excited to be a part of this production.

Macon Shorts is a new short-film competition hosted by the Gateway Initiative.

The Gateway Initiative is shining the spotlight on Macon, Georgia's assets, historic landmarks, interesting characters, creative culture and musical legacy, a news release says.

Talented filmmakers will have the chance to tell a compelling story, while showcasing the Macon community from fresh, innovative perspectives.

Creative expression is encouraged and applauded by a city filled with aspiring entrepreneurs and artists.

The Gateway Initiative will promote and reward the best and brightest screenwriters, filmmakers, directors and crews.

Macon Film Festival Hits Theatres Near You

Thursday, February 17 kicks off the film festival with the premiere of "Freedom Riders" at 7:30 p.m.

The Film Festival will also feature After Parties, Coffee Talks and Workshops.

Official festival pins and tickets for special events go on sale February 14.

Special events include Fashion Show and Pink Champagne Brunch, Tunes & Balloons, Street Party, Cherry Blossom Gala and the Historic Macon Decorators’ Showhouse Tour.

Join the Cannonball House as we kick off our Antique Quilt Display which will be on exhibit during the month of March. 

Take a tour of the 1853 Greek Revival home and view quilts and coverlets which date to the early 19th century.

We will host the Kick-Off as a First Friday Event on March 4th. 

The Cannonball House will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. 

Admission: $3 - $6, however from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. you can get one free admission with one paid admission. 

Enjoy warm apple cider and cookies in our formal dining room.
