Macon-Bibb celebrates Arbor Day by planting 1,000th tree in four years

Macon-Bibb County now celebrating 3 decades as an official “Tree City USA” community. The distinction is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to communities who are dedicated to taking care of the trees they have, and planting more.

For the 2016 Arbor Day observance, Macon-Bibb celebrated a milestone: the thousandth tree planted as part of a four-year plan. The ‘Tree Team’ for the county – including our Forester, Randell Hunt – installed the Dedour Cedar at Little Richard Penniman Park. It’s a hardwood tree, expected to last up to 200 years.
