Rutland Middle Student Wins Bibb County Spelling Bee

A Rutland Middle School seventh-grader is this year's winner of the Bibb County Spelling Bee. Junus Searcy correctly spelled the word "apricot" to win the bee.

The top spellers from District elementary and middle schools competed in the annual Bibb County Spelling Bee on Saturday, January 26, at Central High School. This year’s event was sponsored by the Bibb Association of Educators.

The runner-up, Weaver Middle School seventh-grader Tavores Pearson, will join Junus in advancing to the District Six Competition on February 23 at 10 a.m. at Fort Valley State University. Third-place winner Marquez Finney, a Hartley Elementary School fifth-grader, will serve as the alternate if one of the top two winners is unable to participate in the District Six Competition.

The winner from the District Six Competition will advance to the State Spelling Bee Competition on March 15 at 11 a.m. at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
