Welcoming 2013: Making the Most of the New Year | Business
Today is my first day in the office for 2013. I intentionally took time off over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to step back from work, enjoy my family and clear my head. Now I’m back and ready to hit the ground running! How about you?
In the past I’ve never been much of a believer in writing down my goals or making them for that matter. It all seemed a little woo-woo and out there. However in 2012 I worked with a wonderful organizer and business coach Paris Love (www.parisloveinstitute.com) who convinced me of the importance of setting goals. With her encouragement I wrote my big picture goals, and when I say I wrote them, I mean I physically wrote them on a piece of paper and put it in a prominent place in my office. Every morning before I started work I repeated my goals out loud to share my intentions with the universe. Eventually I knew the goals by heart and would recite them while I walked the dog or drove my kids to piano practice. And guess what, by year’s end, I had met and exceeded every one of my goals!
So the first order of business this morning has been to sit down and write out my goals for the year, both personally and professionally. A couple of examples for you: personally I would like to run three 5K races in 2013 and maintain my weight (I worked very hard in 2012 to lose 20 pounds and I DON’T want to backslide!). On the professional side I want to publish 2 ebooks (one coming later this month!), make and record one organizing video a month and enroll in a course that teaches coaching techniques that will allow me to better serve my clients, among many others. I also made several short term goals for the first quarter of the year detailing the income and number of new clients I intend to achieve.
Because I have been mulling my 2013 goals in my head for a while, this process only took about 15 minutes. I encourage you to take 15-30 minutes today to sit down with pen and paper and hammer out some goals for yourself for the New Year. Then come back here and share them. Get those goals out in the universe and we are all sure to share a wonderfully successful 2013!
What do you want to accomplish in 2013?
