Southwest Hosts Mock Interview Workshop

On March 11-13, 2014, senior students enrolled in Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) classes at Southwest High School participated in Mock Interviews. These mock interviews exposed students to the interview portion of the college admissions, scholarship and job search process.

Students reported to the interviews with an entry level resume and application. Students said the interviews were beneficial in that they gained tips on marketing their skill set and increased their confidence in talking with potential employers.

Central High School held its inaugural Mock Interview Job Fair on March 11-13, 2014. Participating in the major event were seniors, juniors, and work-based learning students who are enrolled in courses in the area of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE). Approximately 110 students came “dressed for success” to participate in the Mock Interview Job Fair. The purpose was to expose the students to the importance of interviews and the basic techniques for a successful interview. In addition to the job-search process, the event also focused on helping the students with interviews for things such as college admission and scholarships. The outstanding support of the interviewers made the event a huge success, also.

Cherry Blossom Festival officially opens Friday

It's time to wear pink in honor of Macon's Cherry Blossom Festival.

The official opening ceremony kicks off the festival Friday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Central City Park.

Then, festival-goers can enjoy trolley tours, cemetery spirit strolls, a military ball, lantern tours and a concert, all on Friday.

Macon has a "Need for Speed"

Last April, Central Georgians spotted a silver Mustang, built for racing, speeding through Macon. Thursday night, it raced onto silver screens as the movie "Need for Speed' cruised into theaters. 13WMAZ's Elise Brown camped out at the AmStar 16 on Zebulon Road to catch audiences on their way in and out of the first showing. David Jones chose to celebrate his birthday by seeing the film.

Hutchings Career Center students have been participating in “Dress for Success” Wednesdays. This weekly event allows them to project an image of professionalism and credibility.

Through this activity students develop and sharpen their professional image and "promotability."

This activity also looks at all aspects of the business image from body language and dress to meeting etiquette, interview skills and conflict management with co-workers.

The rise in store closings is a prominent sign of their struggles. Weakened companies cannot afford the real estate and personnel costs that go along with supporting hundreds of unprofitable locations. The clearest proof of the problem was RadioShack's recent decision to close more than 1,000 stores.
