NCAA Wrestling Champion Visits High Schools

NCAA Individual Wrestling Champion for 2010-2011 Anthony Robles told students gathered in Northeast High School’s gym on Friday, September 16, that there will always be challenges in life, and that it is how you react to those challenges that make you who you are.

“Those obstacles made me stronger,” Robles said of his own challenges.

Born without a right leg, Robles said he could have given up many times, but instead he kept going and he pursued his passion for wrestling. Now he wears an NCAA Championship ring and holds a degree in Business Communications from Arizona State University, where he graduated last spring. He also tours the country as a motivational speaker, just signed a deal with Nike, and is close to signing a book and movie deal.

Friday, he visited students at three District schools – Howard, Northeast and Southwest High Schools – to share his story.
