Macon Animal Control is in its ninth week of no-kill, and one rescue playing a major role in keeping cats out of the euthanasia room is Macon Purrs N Paws.

Like most area rescues, however, Macon Purrs N Paws is at capacity for both dogs and cats.

"We are unable to help at MAC right now because we are full," said Anne Brennaman, the rescue's founder, "so we are having an open house and adoption event at our shelter this weekend."

Adoptions at Macon Animal Control remain at a trickle, which means the weeks of no euthanasia at the shelter will end soon. The public responded to pleas for help before the shelter shut down for a few days early this month. Now that the shelter has reopened and homeless animals are pouring in, it seems the public has forgotten that lifesaving efforts need to continue.

Brennaman said the cattery will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The adoption fee for fully vetted (if age appropriate), spayed and neutered cats and kittens is reduced to $60. Black kitties are having their own special happy hours: adopt one and get one for free. Everyone knows two cats are better than one, right?

This is the first time Macon Purrs N Paws has opened its doors to the public. Please do not bring a cat to surrender, because the rescue is not able to accept any cats or kittens from the public.

Macon Purrs N Paws' cattery is at 1545 Rocky Creek Road in the Fall Line Plaza near the Piggly Wiggly shopping center, behind McDonald's restaurant.
