Mount de Sales Academy, Saint Joseph School Join in Celebratory Mass Honoring Pope Benedict XVI | Community Spirit
As masses were being offered worldwide in thanksgiving for the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI on his last day as the Holy See, students and faculty members from Mount de Sales Academy and Saint Joseph School, some 260 in total, gathered at Saint Joseph Church for the parish mass at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 28, 2013.
Members of the Middle Georgia faith community joined them to fill the church as everyone, in prayerful continuity, gave thanks for the service and leadership of Pope Benedict XVI and offered prayers for him as he continues to serve the Church through prayer and study.
Primary celebrant for the service was Saint Joseph Pastor Fr. Allan McDonald, con-celebrated with Parochial Vicar Fr. Dawid Kwiatkowski, and assisted by Deacons Rev. Don Coates and Tom Eden.
During his homily, Fr. McDonald took the opportunity to cite portions of Pope Benedict’s final General Audience, emphasizing the need to be thankful for the gift of Chrisitianity. He reaffirmed, as Pope Benedict had addressed the faithful, “Yes, we are happy for the gift of faith: it is the most precious good that no one can take from us! Let us thank God for this every day, with prayer and with coherent Christian life. God loves us, but He also expects that we love Him.”
