The Safari Wild Dinner is an annual Friends of Scouting fundraising event for the Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America.  It will be held March 17, 2011 at the Idle Hour Golf and Country Club in Macon, GA at 7pm.  The keynote speaker for the evening will be Bobby Lamb, Mercer University’s Head Football Coach.
Born in Augusta and raised in Commerce, Bobby Lamb joins the Mercer coaching ranks after nine successful seasons as head coach at Furman University. He will become the 19th head coach in Bears’ football history on July 1st.
During his tenure guiding Furman’s program, Lamb had a 67-40 record (.626). He led the Paladins to winning records in eight of his nine   seasons and made four trips to the NCAA I-AA (now Football Championship Series) playoffs. His 2004 squad won the SoCon championship and Lamb was tabbed as the Conference’s “Coach of the Year.”
As a player at Furman, Lamb was a part of three SoCon championship teams and three NCAA I-AA playoff berths. As a senior, he was the SoCon “Player of the Year,” the NCAA I-AA passing efficiency national leader and led the      Paladins to an NCAA I-AA national runner-up finish. He is a member of Furman’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
His message is fitting for the Boy Scouts of America reflecting on preparedness, teamwork, leadership and trust.
Lamb is married to Allyson Acker.  The couple has two children: a daughter, Sallie (18), and a son, Taylor (16).

The Central Georgia Council is one of the largest councils in Georgia geographically, serving 24 counties of middle Georgia.  Over 5,700 youth are served each year in programs from first grade through high school.  About 1,800 adult volunteers serve Scouting under the guidance of a volunteer board of directors and a relatively small professional staff of six. Assisting the volunteers and professionals is an administrative support staff of four.
