Variety show to feature community leaders, benefit youth commission

The 2017 Taste of Macon-Bibb Follies is slated for April 8 at the Historic Douglass Theater. There will be reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the show at 7 p.m. The variety show will feature performances from Mayor Robert Reichert, some of our commissioners, local leaders, fire department officials and more! It's all to benefit the Macon-Bibb County Youth Commission. The students in the commission get to learn up close how their local, state, and national governments operate through trips, programs, workshops, and activities. Paws in the Park pairs rescue groups, Animal Welfare for dog show

Tobesofkee will be the site of the popular 'Paws in the Park' event this year! The dog show will feature playful pups competing for a prize. Awards will be given out in several categories including best dressed, best looking, owner/dog lookalike and more! It's happening from noon to 4 p.m. at Sandy Beach Park on Saturday, March 25. New name, new look at Theron Ussery Park

On Friday, March 10, the community gathered at the recreation facility formerly known as North Macon Park to officially unveil SPLOST upgrades, and announce the renaming of the park. It's now 'Theron Ussery Park' in honor of the former Macon city councilman, and current member of the SPLOST Advisory Committee. Our community is full of bright and ambitious women working in many roles to help Macon-Bibb shine. At the commission meeting on March 7, the Macon-Bibb Commission honored them and officially recognized March 2017 as Women's History Month.

Baseball could return to Luther Williams Field

Baseball is coming back to historic Luther Williams Field in Central City Park! Commissioners voted to approve an agreement with SRO Partners LLC to bring a Costal Plains League Team to Macon-Bibb.

Major upgrade coming to Henry Burns Park

Henry Burns Park (at the corner of Ingleside and Ridge Avenues) is a popular place, but it's small. In an effort to maximize the impact of the space we have Commissioners approved a plan to bring $709,250 worth of work to the area. Ogles Construction, Inc will handle the renovations.

Youth Commission students shadow government leaders on Groundhog Day

Our student leaders are already planning for their futures and what better way to get real-world experience than by shadowing our government leaders! On Groundhog Day this year (Feb. 2) our young men and women were paired up with department heads to learn the ins and outs of government, and how we operate.
