Today, we're highlighting Project Giving, an all-volunteer, organization building "Bridges of Hope" for families who are suffering from chronic medical illnesses.

City Market on the Green To Take Place Saturday

On Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., City Market on the Green will take place at Third St. and Poplar St.

According to Naomi Davis of Davis Farms, items for sale will include:

Kale
Pea tendrils
Red leaf lettuce
Green leaf lettuce
Radishes
Turnips
Jerusalem artichokes
Sage
Terragon
Rosemary
Lemon balm
Mint

Rebuilding Macon Releases Cookbook Featuring Downtown Restaurant Recipes

Rebuilding Macon, a non-profit organization working to preserve homeownership and neighborhoods, has released a cookbook featuring participating downtown Macon restaurant recipes.

All proceeds from the cookbook sales will support the programs of Rebuilding Macon. The money raised by Let’s Get Cooking will help build wheelchair ramps, replace roofs, and paint homes in Macon and surrounding areas.

According to its website, Rebuilding Macon, Inc. is Macon’s largest nonprofit organization and works to provide rehabilitation services free of charge to those in need. With the help of 2500 volunteers, Rebuilding Macon rehabilitated and repaired 260 homes last year.

The Let’s Get Cooking cookbook project was created by Debra Rollins, Executive Director of Rebuilding Macon.

Macon Rescue Mission to Help Homeless on Thanksgiving

The Macon Rescue Mission is hosting a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 25, for the homeless and needy. 

Invitations have been distributed to the homeless in the area and the Rescue Mission plans to feed 300 to 500 people. 

The meal is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and the Rescue Mission will serve a second meal at 1:00 p.m. if needed. 

Coats, blankets, and a clothing closet will be available to attendees.  

The Mission has been serving a Thanksgiving banquet to the community for over 30 years.

Mayor's Christmas Motorcade

Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade-Hygiene kit assembly day
Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 3p.m.,

The city’s committee for the Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade will be  meeting Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. in the EMA building (next to city Hall). We will be assembling Hygiene kits for distribution during the Mayor’s Motorcade at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville (Dec. 7).

Reconnecting America to Hold Public Forum at 4 p.m.

Reconnecting America will visit Macon on Wednesday, Nov. 17 to assist in the planning to bring passenger rail to Georgia.

The public is invited to attend and participate by coming to the Macon Marriott City Center in the Grand Salon at 4 p.m.  This will provide a chance for residents of Macon to learn about the current efforts to develop passenger rail and what Macon can do to be apart of this national trend. 

From this visit Reconnecting America will make recommendations to the City of Macon has to what the next steps should be to make passenger rail a reality in Macon and the state of Georgia.

I am thrilled that we will have a chance to work with Reconnecting America to help Macon in our effort to prepare for passenger rail service,” said Mayor Robert Reichert.
