Three Arrested After Chase in Monroe, Bibb | Crime
Two suspects involved in a chase in Monroe County were caught after a six hour search that began around 11:00 Tuesday morning.
A Monroe County deputy attempted to stop a speeding Dodge Charger on I-75 south bound near mile marker 179. The car was traveling 85 mph in a 65 mph zone. The driver of the car refused to stop and continued driving south on I-75 into Bibb County at times reaching speeds of over 120.
The Monroe County deputy attempted to execute a PIT maneuver to stop the speeding car near Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. but the car spun around and began traveling north in the southbound lane of I-75 in a construction zone.
Shortly thereafter the car crossed the grassy median to the northbound side of I-75 and continued driving back into Monroe County. As the chase neared Pate Road, Monroe deputies attempted to employ stop sticks to deflate the tires of the car. The car, in an attempt to avoid the stop sticks, crashed in a ditch.
Two men in the car ran away towards the access road near Bolingreen Nursing Home. One suspect, Jonathan Irving, 20 years old, from Ellenwood, Georgia, was arrested a couple of hours later after he was spotted by a Monroe County deputy in a gold Chevy Malibu.
As the vehicle stopped the suspect ran and was apprehended near the I-475 over pass on Hwy. 41 in Bolingbroke. The driver of the Malibu, Racheal Gerald, 23, of Forest Park, Georgia, was arrested for her attempt to help Irving escape arrest.
As the search for the other suspect continued, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Spalding County STAR Aviation Unit and helicopters searched Bolingbroke for the other suspect for several hours before capturing the man in the Glen Merry Subdivision around 5:20 this afternoon.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher A. Snelson, 22 years old, from Atlanta. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office received assistance from Bibb County, The Georgia State Patrol and the Bolingbroke Fire Department during the chase and subsequent search.
Snelson and Irving face numerous charges.
