No bond was set Thursday for a Macon mother accused of murder in the apparent beating death of her 3-year-old son.
Jameshia Desiree Reid, 24, made her first appearance in court Thursday to be asked if she understood the murder charge against her.
She was first arrested Wednesday evening on a child cruelty charge after her son, Jarkarie Reid, was hospitalized around noon that day.
However, he died just after 1 a.m. Thursday, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says. The charge was later upgraded to murder.
The lawyer for Jameshia Reid told Judge Jane Reeves his client wants to have a commitment hearing, which has been set for June 6.
At the commitment hearing, prosecutors will have to explain the evidence against Reid that led to her arrest.
Jones told 13WMAZ the boy's injuries appeared to result from a beating. A police news release described injuries to the boy's body and head.
Officers arrived at the Pleasant Hill home he and his mother shared after receiving a call about a child not breathing.
The home is in the 2100 block of Mutual Avenue in Macon. That's off Walnut Street.
