Macon Police Officer Resigns After Fight
Crime

A Macon police officer resigned after striking a fellow officer during a fight while on duty, according to a news release.

Police say Andrew Gilbert and the other officer fought after both men responded to a burglary call at a Dollar General store on Pio Nono Avenue early last Saturday.

Gilbert approached Officer Derek Uebel and claimed the other officer "nearly ran him off the road" while en route to the store, the release says.

He hit Uebel and the pair continued to fight, according to police.

Police say Gilbert resigned Wednesday, and internal affairs continue to investigate the matter.

When contacted on Thursday, police spokeswoman declined to release any information on the case, calling it an "internal matter."
