Crimestoppers Tip Leads to Drugs and Weapons Arrests

After receiving a tip through Crimestoppers, members of the Middle Georgia Fugitive Squad arrested Monday a Macon man who was wanted since August in connection with a drug investigation. Sheriff's deputies say they arrested Michael Pitts Jr. on Yearty Drive after a short foot chase.

Sheriff's investigators asked the Middle Georgia Fugitive Squad for help in finding Pitts, who fled while they were serving a search warrant August 1 at his home at 2241 Melton Ave., in east Macon.

During the search, investigators say they seized several pounds of marijuana, six handguns -- two of them stolen -- and what they called gang and drug paraphernalia. Four people were arrested at the scene.

Investigators say they also seized $10,000 in cash in connection with the case.

Charges against Pitts include possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, criminal street-gang activity and receiving stolen property.

Pitts, 21 years old, is being held at the Bibb County jail on bond of $18,200.

Lt. Sean DeFoe with the Bibb Sheriff's office said the felony was in reference to manufacturing and distributing marijuana.
