Macon Tax Preparer Charged With Stealing Refunds
Crime

A Macon tax preparer is charged with using people's personal information to steal their tax refunds.

According to the indictment, Willie Grant, owner-operator of Grant's Income Tax, Bookkeeping and Check Cash, used the Social Security numbers of 10 people to file their taxes, then steal their refunds. The offenses allegedly happened in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Grant allegedly used the scheme to steal more than $60,000.

A federal grand jury indicted Grant on 23 counts of making false claims for tax refunds, four counts of theft of government money, and four counts of aggravated identity theft.

An indictment merely alleges that a crime has been committed, and Mr. Grant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
