Steve Smith Sworn in as Bibb Co. Schools Supt. | Education
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Steve Smith was sworn in as the new interim Superintendent for Bibb County Schools.
Smith was confirmed in a 8-0 vote to serve as the head of the school for a period of up to one year while the board looks for a permanent replacement for former Superintendent Romain Dallemand.
Smith is no stranger to Bibb County. He served as principal of Central High School in Macon, before serving as Superintendent in Lowndes and Pulaski counties.
Smith had been set to retire before taking the temporary job in Bibb County, as he jokingly put it, "borrowed" from his wife and retirement.
Although it was a happy occasion since many board members and school officials already knew Smith, he says he has work to do.
His main priority is what he called "healing the wounds" of the past, including what he called a negative perception of the board.
His first order of business is meeting with teachers and staff members in the school system before figuring out how to tackle issues such as the $18 million budget shortfall and how to move forward with former Supt. Dallemand's "Macon Miracle" plan.
