Dallemand: Questions on Trip 'Irrelevant and Trivial' | Education
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Bibb County School Supt. Romain Dallemand described questions about his recent trip to Belgium as "irrelevant and trivial."
He made that comment to 13WMAZ reporter Katelyn Heck before Monday's speech to the Macon Rotary Club. (Watch video)
She asked Dallemand about his recent trip to the World Appreciative Inquiry Conference in Ghent and his decision to pay for the trip out of his own pocket. The estimated cost: $3,000.
Last month, some school board members and others criticized his trip to the conference, where he talked about drawing up his Macon Miracle plan.
After the trip, Dallemand said he always intended to pay his own way.
When we asked why he didn't say that in the first place, Dallemand said the media should focus on more important issues:
"Let's talk about improving this community for the sake, for the sake of our own future and our own survival. That is what I'm here to talk about.
"I don't want to talk about these things that are completely irrelevant and trivial, to be honest. So my advice to you as journalists would be to talk about issues that really have substance - issues that truly matter, issues that really make a difference in this community. OK?
Dallemand then walked away, saying, "Talk to you later. Talk to you later."
