Bibb County school board member Gary Bechtel filed a lawsuit against Superintendent Romain Dallemand Monday afternoon.
Bechtel and his wife filed the lawsuit on behalf of their son, Sam, in Bibb Superior Court against Dallemand individually, not in his capacity as the Bibb superintendent.
According to the lawsuit, the family seeks damages and an injunction to have their son's academic information removed from the District's website. The family is requesting a trial by jury.
The lawsuit also says the Bechtels' allege Dallemand "made other unauthorized releases of Sam's private and confidential education records before he caused them to be published on the Bibb County School District's website on July 20,2012."
Bechtel told Eyewitness News he thinks Dallemand attempted to discredit him by releasing his son's academic information with the system's recent audit.
"I believe the whole audit is directed at me to damage my reputation because I dared to speak out against the superintendent," Bechtel said.

The Bechtels' lawyer, Charlie Cox, said Dallemand "acted in malice" and with intent to injure the school board member's reputation.
"My son is a student and deserves the same right to privacy allowed to all other students," Bechtel said.
Calls made to the superintendent's office were not returned.
Cox says the Bechtels have an August 1 hearing about securing an injunction.
