The Bibb County Board of Education Monday night voted 5-3 to approve a new three-year contract for school Supt. Romain Dallemand.
The vote came more than an hour into a called meeting at the board offices on Mulberry Street Monday night.
Under the new contract, Dallemand's base pay of $198,000 remains the same. So does the the $2,500 limit in expense reimbursement.
His car allownce would double to $800 a year, and his term life insurance policy to $1 million.
His benefits include disability insurance, payment into the teacher retirement system and 60 days of sick leave in 2014.
Susan Sipe, Lynn Farmer and Gary Bechtel voted no.
"When you look at the annual leave, and you look at the sick days, it's basically a back-door pay increase," said Bechtel.
Board vice president Susan Middleton says she voted yes because the contract is fair and gives the superintendent a chance to follow through with the strategic plan.
"It's an offer of saying, 'Are you committed to seeing this through, understanding the financial resources of the district, understanding there's been some political situations regarding your tenancy here.' So it's a way of saying, let's just continue as we were," said Middleton.
Three newly elected board members, who take office in January, did not have a role in Monday night's vote, despite requests from two of them, Jason Downey and Lester Miller.
