Registration Kicks Off For Bibb Pre-k

Registration for Bibb county's pre-k programs is underway.

The district has opened a lottery system for it's 748 pre-k spots from February 4 through the 28th.

"It does not matter what day parents come in in February, everybody will go into the lottery the same so there is no reason to rush out," said pre-k program director Lori Smith.

Smith said parents can expect their pre-K students to be part of an academically-rigorous environment where the focus is on literacy.

"Pre-k is very academic," said Smith. "I think a lot of times parents look to it as sort of a babysitting opportunity and that is not what we do here. If parents are looking for a babysitter, pre-K is not the place for you. We hit the ground running, and we have a schedule that we stick to every day. Children are offered instruction in all areas, and they're gonna work hard while they're here."

Parents will get a letter saying whether their child has been accepted or placed on a wait-list between May 30 and July 15.
