Tens of thousands without power in Central Georgia | Environment
Tens of thousands of people are without power in Central Georgia this morning.
About 10,000 people are without power in Bibb County, 10,000 people in Baldwin County and more than 500 in Jones County, according to Georgia Power's map alone.
More than 11,000 of Washington EMC's 15,000 customers don't have power due to blown transformers and downed trees. Washington EMC services Washington, Johnson, Hancock, Baldwin, Warren, Laurens, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, and Wilkinson counties.
About 16,000 Tri-County EMC customers don't have power. Almost 6,000 of those are in Jones County, almost 5,000 in Baldwin and nearly 4,000 in Putnam County.
Scattered outages exist in Jasper, Morgan, Wilkinson and Twiggs counties as well. These outages happened as a result of "a combination of icing, downed trees and wind," according to a release.
