Bibb County schools' graduation rates jumped nearly 9 percentage points in 2013, according to data released Wednesday by the Georgia Department of Education.

The District's 2013 four-year cohort graduation rate was 61.1 percent, up 8.8 percentage points from its 2012 four-year cohort graduation rate of 52.3 percent, a Bibb schools news release stated.

In 2011, Bibb's four-year cohort graduation rate was 51.34 percent.

Individual high schools showed the following results:

"I am thrilled that the graduation rate improved by about 9 percentage points," Interim Superintendent E. Steven Smith, stated in the news release. "I think it is a real tribute to the commitment that the teachers in each of the high schools have made in working with their students to ensure more students meet the requirements for graduation, and I think we will probably continue to see even more improvements in the graduation rate in the future."
