Westside High School Hosts Mock SkillsUSA Competition for Region 5 | Families
The SkillsUSA Georgia TeamWorks competition, sponsored by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA), is entering its 11th year. The TeamWorks competition is a SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference two-day event during which 10 teams, each consisting of four students, will construct building projects for a detailed blueprint design that requires skills in carpentry, electrical, masonry, and plumbing.
In preparation for the upcoming competition to be held February 28, 2013, at Southern Crescent Technical College in Griffin, Westside High School teacher Glenn Ford organized a mock competition last week at Central Georgia Technical College. Students from District schools as well as surrounding communities participated in the event, which proved to be a huge success.
“Each student from Region 5 who took part in this mock exercise has a little more insight than some of their competitors for the upcoming event in February," Mr. Ford said.
During the event, two District students placed in the masonry and plumbing skills competitions. From Southwest High School, Antonio Booker placed second in the masonry competition, and from Westside High School, DeAndre Ross placed third in the plumbing skills demonstration.
