13 Amusements for the Weekend
Families

Whether you want to "Shamrock" your ride, party with First Friday crowds, catch the Drive-By Truckers at the Big Bird Bash, help christen the very first Peach Blossom Festival or hang with the Miss Forsythia Pageant, there is something for you to do this weekend in Central Georgia.

March, let the madness ensue.

  1. Warm up the weekend with First Friday, whether you're in Macon, Milledgeville or Dublin. In Milledgeville, you'll find a celebration of the town's roots with trolley rides to four local museums and chats at Allied Arts over old architecture photos. In Dublin, catch the concert on Madison with country singer Garrett Miles.
  2. Also in Dublin Friday, get in the St. Patrick's festival spirit by Shamrocking Your Ride. To have a shamrock painted on your vehicle, the cost is $5 and available all day, 11-5.
  3. In Macon Friday night, warm up your ears for the Big Bird Bash with Sterling Waite and the Cotton Avenue Hustlers at The Hummingbird, starting around 9:30 p.m.
  4. Before that, get your dose of art in downtown Macon with never-before-seen photos of musical icons at the Macon Arts Alliance. That's open from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
  5. Then, if First Friday doesn't hit you to hard, you may want to check out a rummage and bake sale from 8-1 on Saturday at 1546 Rocky Creek Road. Proceeds benefit Macon Purrs N Paws.
  6. You can also check out a spring sale at Second Impressions consignment shop Friday and Saturday. Early-bird shoppers, starting at 8 a.m., can enter the sale for a $5 donation to Jay's Hope. They're located at 3035 Hartley Bridge Road.
  7. After your shopping spree, head to the all-day Big Bird Bash with music starting at noon and ending with headliner Drive By Truckers. Tickets are $25.
  8. In case that isn't enough music, you can also check out bluegrass band Kenny Scoggins and Miller Creek at the Juliette Opry. Entry is free, show starts at 7:30 p.m.
  9. Celebrate the first Peach Blossom Festival with Lane Southern Orchards from 10-5 a.m. Saturday. Head down Highway 96 for a peach blossom tour, entertainment and vendors.
  10. If you head north to Forsyth Friday and Saturday, you'll also be able to start celebrating the Forsythia Festival this weekend with the Friday night musical and then the Miss Forsythia Pageant on Saturday. The "Ain-A That Good News!" starts at 7 pm.
  11. Friday with the Backlot Players at First Baptist Church. Saturday, the pageant is from 9-5. Adult tickets are $4, students are $2 and children 5 and under are free.
  12. Once you change out of your pageant dress, head to Crawford County for a concert with The Whisnants and Roberta's New Grace. That's at the Crawford Co. BOE Auditorium, 6 p.m. Saturday.
  13. Ready your door for spring with this decorative wreath. Make roses out of burlap material with this tutorial.
