'10 Great Dates' to Energize Marriages

Middle Georgia Healthy Community Initiative is Celebrating National Marriage Week Feb. 13 – 17. 

10 Great Dates kick-off is Thursday, February 17, 6:30 p.m. at Hephzibah Dining Hall located on Zebulon Rd. in Macon. 

Authors of 10 Great Dates, David and Claudia Arp, will be present to take the couples through their date night.

Country Music Sweetheart Tanya Tucker to Perform at The Grand

MACON – Country icon Tanya Tucker, singer of nine No. 1 hit singles and 29 Top 10 singles, will take the stage at The Grand Opera House on Friday, March 18, at 8 p.m. in downtown Macon. Tickets are $40-$50 and a limited number of VIP tickets are available for $70. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased through Mercer Ticket Sales at (478) 301-5470 or online at www.TheGrandMacon.com.

With hits including “Delta Dawn,” “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane” and “What’s Your Mama’s Name,” Tucker continues to be a force on the music scene. By the age of 15, Tucker had received a Grammy nomination, released a greatest hits package, and was one of the first country artists to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Mayoral Proclamation to Commence Heartfest 2011

Mayor Robert Reichert will commence HeartFest 2011 on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with a proclamation at City Hall.

Mayor Reichert will speak about the importance of heart health as The Medical Center of Central Georgia begins its month-long education and discussion about cardiovascular disease, a Medical Center of Central Georgia news release says.

HeartFest 2011 coincides with American Heart Month, a national campaign by the American Heart Association.

Winter Graduation to be Streamed Online

The district’s 2011 Winter Graduation is being held on Wednesday, January 26 at Central High School beginning at 6 p.m.

For the first time, it will also be streamed online by visiting http://tinyurl.com/BCSDWinterGrad11. Quotations from the speakers will also be posted live to the district’s Twitter account at www.twitter.com/bibbschools.

Almost 50 students from all seven high schools will participate in the ceremony, and this year’s featured speakers are Rutland High School Senior Eunice Waters and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mack Bullard.

Heritage Elementary Holds Parent Workshop

Heritage Elementary will host a workshop for parents on Tuesday, January 25 from 5-6 p.m. titled Improving Math and Homework Skills.

The workshop will be led by the school’s Professional Learning Coach, Rhonda Jones, and she will provide engaging strategies to increase math scores and creative ways to make homework fun.

This workshop is one in a series of opportunities for parents to learn more about how they can better support their child’s education.

Other workshops have included: What Does Title I Mean?, Family Literacy Night and Computer Basics and Internet Safety.  More than 400 parents attended the Family Literacy night, and other workshops have averaged 15-25 parents.

The Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America serves 24 counties and over 5,700 youth.  The Scouting method is used to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development and self-reliance through outdoor education.
