The ABCs of Organizing: A is for...

The ABCs of Organizing: A is for...

Getting organized can be as easy as ABC! Enjoy our 9 week series of the ABCs of Organizing as we share ways to become more organized throughout your home and your life.

In organizing A is for…

Assign - Assign a home to your possessions. If an items doesn’t have a specific place it belongs, how can you expect to put it away. Coffee cups go on the bottom shelf, while ice cream bowls go on the middle shelf. Shoes on the left side of the closet, boots on the right. Use labels whenever you can.

Organizing Your Photos: Create a Backup System

Organizing Your Photos: Create a Backup System

If you get only one thing from all of my organizing your photos posts, please let it be that you need to create a backup system for your photos, both printed and digital. If your home were to burn down or your computer was stolen, you could replace physical things like a TV or a laptop but you cannot replace the photos of your family vacations and your Dad’s last birthday. Those pictures are how we capture and memorialize the fleeting moments of our lives. To have them disappear forever in the blink of an eye is heart wrenching.

Playing the Minimalism Game

Playing the Minimalism Game

After I heard to the Minimalists speak at the recent NAPO conference, I have been reading some of their books and following their blog. One of their posts was about playing the Minimalism Game (#minsgame). The idea behind this game is that on day 1 you get rid of one thing, on day 2  you get rid of two things, on day 3 get rid of three things and so on and so forth.  I really liked this idea of slowly building up your purging in small, doable bites.  During the course of a 31 day month like May when I played the game, you can get rid of 496 items. That might sound like a huge amount, but it really is amazing how easy it ended up being.

When To Ask For Help

When To Ask For Help

Sometimes you just have to ask for help.  It is so hard for many women to stop ask for help because it seems like an admission that we can't do it all. But, you know what? We can't do it all and who wants to do it all?!

Organizing Your Photos: Favorite Products for Digital Pictures

Organizing your photos can seem really overwhelming especially when you sit staring at a computer with 10,000+ digital pictures. While I try as little as possible to advocate buy more stuff to get yourself organized, when it comes to photo organizing some specially chosen items (as well as apps and services) can make a world of difference! Here are some of my favorite products. This week we will talk about digital photographs and next week we will talk about print pictures.
