Yes - How many times have you said “yes” to something and then immediately regretted it? Have you said yes to a job or a volunteer obligation only to realize down the road that it is interfering with the important things in life or you just can’t give it the time it deserves? Well, sometimes you have to say “no” to certain situations, obligations and even certain people in order to say “yes” to yourself, your family and your life. Stepping away from a nagging obligation is so much better for you (and them) in the long run. Determine what your motivations and values are in life and use those to figure out how you want to spend your time. Say yes to you.

Vertical Space - One of the most underutilized storage areas in our homes is the vertical space - empty walls, the backs of doors and even above the doors. When all else fails, go up. Add a second shelf at the top of your closet to store out of season clothes. Install an over the door organizer on your laundry room door to hold extra cleaning supplies or put one in your daughter’s room as a Barbie holder. Small areas of open walls are great for hooks (I love Command Hooks™) to hold robes, gym clothes, even jewelry.  If you feel you are running low on storage space, carefully look around and see if you have any vertical real estate you can transform to your advantage.

Unplug - Feeling overwhelmed? Anxious? Feeling like everything in your life beeps at you? It may be time to unplug. Yes, I said it. Put down the iphone, step away from the computer, turn off the TV and just be in your life. If the thought of that gives you even more anxiety, try it for 1 hour a day. Then as you can, step away for a little longer. Maybe even declare Sunday as tech-free Sunday in your home. Experts also suggest putting away the screens 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime because the light they emit can affect your sleep patterns. Years ago we survived just fine without little glowing boxes in our hands, we’ll be ok to unplug a little bit today.

Tidy - If clutter seems to be taking over your home, try doing a 10 minute tidy every night. Set the timer on your phone or microwave and spend the next 10 minutes tossing the trash, returning items to their homes, putting unwanted items in a donation box and straightening up in general. This 10 minutes won’t declutter your entire house, but when done every day, the cumulative effect will be amazing. Get your entire family involved and make it fun however you can.
