Howard High Half-Court Buzzer Beater

Down-to-the-wire action isn't uncommon for local high school basketball, but it doesn't get much more exciting than this week's buzzer beater from half court between the Howard and Rutland boys' teams.

With the game tied and just 10 seconds on the clock, the Rutland 'Canes Antonio McKinney goes coast-to-coast with the go-ahead bucket to take the lead 63-61.

But then, off the inbound pass, Howard's Ray Gantt launches a half-court prayer. That prayer is answered as his shot banks in for three right at the buzzer for the 64-63 victory.

An exciting finish to a very close ball game in Region 2-AAAA.

Howard Looks to Lead Region

MACON, Ga.-- The Howard Lady Huskies have a shot at the top spot in the region Friday night.  Howard is 13-3 overall and 7-2 in Region 2-AAAA.

The Lady Huskies only losses came at the hands of Rutland, Cross Creek and Baldwin.  All were by four points or less.

Howard needs a win over Veterans and a Mary Persons loss at Rutland to take over at number one.  The Lady Huskies emerged victorious in their last meeting with the War Hawks, 51-48.

"They have a guard who's really quick," explained Head Coach Latavia Coleman.  "She can shoot three's.  She can get to the basket. They're very scrappy.  They play well together.  It's going to be a tough one for us in Veterans.  I just hope my girls are up for the challenge and not think about the last win."

Game time at Rutland Friday night is at seven.
