Macon Native Called to Play for Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati called up reliever Justin Freeman, a 26-year-old Macon native, to be added to their pitching staff.

The call came after their starting ace Johnny Cueto strained a back muscle. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list, according to the Associated Press.

Freeman was called up from the Reds' Triple-A team in Louisville.

Justin Freeman graduated from Mary Persons High School and attended Kennesaw State University.

MLB.com spoke with Freeman after receiving the call from the Reds. He told Mark Sheldon, of MLB.com, "It was a nice wakeup call."

According to MLB.com, Freeman had a 1.80 ERA in his four appearances in Triple-A this year.

In the previous year, he led the Southern League with a 2.91 ERA, after 57 appearances for the Double-A Pensacola team.
