Al Tillman Joins Bibb District 9 Race | News
Longtime Macon activist Al Tillman says he's joining the race for Bibb County's new District 9 commission seat this fall.
He'll challenge James Timley, a veteran Macon City Council member and current council president.
Tillman is a former president of the Macon-Bibb NAACP, a music promoter, radio talk host and political activist. He said he made an unofficial announcement Sunday at a barbecue at his home and plans an official kickoff later.
The district stretches from part of the Vineville neighborhood through west Macon to parts of Bloomfield.
Earlier this year, Tillman said he considered running for office under the new consolidated government, but said he would instead focus on running for the state legislature next year.
After a flurry of legal challenges and votes last week, the first
election for the new consolidated Macon-Bibb government is set for Sept.
Qualifying is now set for Aug. 5-7.
