Mercer Adds Parking Spots for Football Game | News
You'll see tailgating and plenty of Mercer orange on Saturday for Mercer's opening football game. With as many as 10,000 fans expected to attend, the question many have is where to park.
Mercer University says there are three main general parking areas for football fans.
They've cleared out a parking area on Mercer University Drive just across from the stadium if you come to Mercer from I-75.
Another general parking area is near Claude Smith Field, where there are three levels of parking. Another area is on College Street on-campus.
Athletic Director, Jim Cole says they'll have 1,300 parking spots, which he says is way more than basketball game spots.
"We've got 4,000 people for our basketball game and we only used the stadium drive corridor. For football, we opened up the College Street Corridor and the Nolan Corridor, which is upwards of 1,000 parking spaces, basically doubling our capacity. Our stadium seats right at 10," said Cole.
Jim Cole said parking lots open at 9:00 a.m., and he recommends you get there early.
"Parking lots open at 9:00 am and we are encouraging people if they want to ride over with a buddy at 9:00 a.m. and pay $10, go in and park their car and then go back home we're fine with that," said Cole. "My advice is get here as early as you can, get your parking spot staked out, get your tent set up, and then come back and join the festivities just don't get here at 4 and expect to tailgate and get your parking spot."
