Virgil Adams: Macon-Bibb Elections Being 'Handled Properly' | News
Bibb County attorney Virgil Adams says the Macon-Bibb elections should continue moving forward.
After over 30 people voted in the wrong district and hundreds more were listed incorrectly, elections supervisor Jeanetta Watson said Adams would decide how to correct the problem.
Adams told 13WMAZ Friday the elections are being handled properly by Watson and the election board.
Watson called in the Secretary of State's Office earlier in the week to launch an investigation into the mixup.
Jared Thomas with the state office says they're still looking for answers, but as Adams said, the elections are still on track for September 17th.
"State code in Georgia says counties run their own elections. There is absolutely no apparatus for the state to step in and take over the election. That would have to be done by a judge," explains Thomas.
He could not say how long the investigation would take or give any indication of possible outcomes.
