Westside Hosts Open House for AVID Program | News
Westside High School’s AVID Team set a tone of excellence for the school year by hosting an AVID Open House recently.
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
Westside High School's AVID site team is led by Chivas Spivey and supported by Janita Henley, Michael Horton, D. Vidal Nichols, Lara Relyea, Candice Roberson, and Philip Starke.
Janice Flowers, GEAR UP Project Director for the District, and Westside High Principal Dr. Julia Daniely and Assistant Principal Dr. Linda Hall were also in attendance. Dr. Daniely addressed the audience and gave insight on the AVID program and the benefits of student participation and parental support.
“This was both a great event and a rare occasion to have the principal and program staff present for a one-on-one session,” said Ms. Flowers.
