Otis Redding III Helps Kids "Read for the Record" | News
Children enjoyed a reading session at Barnes and Noble, as members of the Junior League of Macon gear up for "Read for the Record Day."
Organizers say "Read for the Record" is sponsored by JumpStart, an early education program.
Saturday, children enjoyed books read by Otis Redding III, and the Principal of Burdell-Hunt Elementary School.
Redding read a story about friendship, called "Otis" by Loren Long.
Junior League President, Lauralen Avery, says they will read books to students in 5 elementary schools on the actual "Read for the Record Day". She says members of Crossroads, and other volunteers will help out.
"The Junior League of Macon contacted me through our foundation, the Otis Redding Memorial Fund, and asked if I would want to be involved and read to the kids," said Redding.
"The attempt is to read to as many children as possible on the same day, and read the same book," Avery explained.
"Read for the Record Day" is October 3rd.
